Is this the most-seen artwork in America?

The United States of America likes pizza. This much we can say for certain. A staggering 3 billion pizzas are eaten in America every year. That’s 100 acres of pizza every day. Each second, 350 slices are sold. Some 251.7 million pounds of pepperoni are eaten each year. So yeah, America likes pizza. This means America also has a lot of pizza boxes.

Back in 2015, Great Big Story went and highlighted Freeport Paper. The company, originally from Brooklyn, manufactures some of the most widely seen graphic art in America: the pizza box.

Freeport Paper alone makes roughly 10 million boxes each week. Comparing each unique design to those of vinyl covers, they take their craft seriously.

In 1999, they moved to their current facility in Islip, New York. From here, they produce boxes with different artworks and designs that travel across the country. In fact, Freeport Paper has also expanded further than the US mainland, designing boxes for business in Puerto Rico and other islands in the Caribbean.

It makes you wonder: just how many millions of people have looked at one of Freeport Paper’s designs? If you count pizza boxes as artwork, is there anything more viewed in America?

Of course, not everyone does pizza like America. Even within America, there is great debate over the New York thin crust or the Chicago deep dish. If you want something completely different, have a look at what a slice in Zanzibar entails:
