This Brightly-Colored Parrot is On the Brink of Extinction
Meet Tango, a yellow-headed amazon at the Greater Vancouver Zoo. With her vibrant plumage and penchant for chatter, she’s a feisty bird. Native to Mexico and northwestern Central America, these brightly-colored parrots are known for their yellow tops and impressive vocabulary. Unfortunately, their personable nature and gift for gab have long made them popular among the illegal pet trade. Due to poaching, yellow-headed amazon populations in the wild now remain critically endangered.
