Hello Bright Eyes! Meet the Burrowing Owl
Burrowing owls are curious birds. While they’re no mammoths—maxing out at 10 inches in height and half a pound in weight—these nocturnal predators definitely stand out. Long legs, bright, beady eyes, and a preference for nesting underground set these owls apart. They prefer open grasslands or deserts and are even known to nest in peculiar places, such as golf courses or airport fields. But habitat loss is contributing to a steady decline in their populations. Can this unique avian weather the storm?
